Haggerston Food Co-Op opposes market forces, 1973

An incredible short documentary about a food co-op providing cheap food to estate residents – and being opposed by local shopkeepers.
Note the copy of Hackney Peoples’ Press on the wall at the 6:57 mark.

The dorlec01 Youtube Channel has a bunch of material of interest, which I’ll return to soon I think!

    • Hi Trisha, do you remember the co-op? I am researching food co-ops at the moment for my PhD and would love to find out more about it. Thanks! Celia

  1. What a wonderful documentary! Do you know who made it? I am researching 1970s food co-ops at the moment for my PhD and would really like to make contact with people who were involved with them in London at the time. I would be really grateful for any other info you have on community-initiated food activities through the years in Hackney too.

    Thanks!

    Celia
